Origami, the ancient Japanese art of paper folding is pretty popular worldwide. Story telling along with Origami (storigami) is a multi-dimensional instructional approach to teaching origami. I was introduced to Origami as a young child and have been fascinated by this readily accessible art form. I firmly believe that the joy of origami can be found by everyone.

Storigami (Storytelling + Origami) is a way to incorporate a story telling performance with Origami instruction. I’ve been writing stories and presenting storigami for over 20 years.

I love to see a pattern or journey in folding sequences for origami models; to incorporate a story into the folding and create a whole new learning experience using performance is my passion.” – Shrikant Iyer

About me:

I was introduced to origami at age 9 through an origami television program. This is why I am a big proponent of origami outreach and visibility to encourage everyone to try folding. I have found that the performance and story telling makes the origami more approachable.

I have been presenting and educating Origami with storytelling for over 20 years. My clients include several schools, libraries, museums and art organizations. I have also appeared on television media all around the world from ABC, travel channel in the US to NHK in Japan. I also provide professional development for adults professionals who are looking to incorporate origami in their careers or corporations looking for team development.

In 2020, I collaborated with local New York origami artist, Paul Frasco to fold the worlds largest origami Dragon which is now entered in the Guinness book of world records. My stories have also been published in different magazines like The Paper by OrigamiUSA, Binah Bunch, library newsletters and websites.
